TFC-849

TFC-849 is a novel, fluorinated carbohydrate-based skin-lightening agent developed by Sirona Biochem through its French subsidiary TFChem and licensed globally to Obagi Medical Products (at the time part of the Valeant Pharmaceuticals family of companies) for dermatologic and cosmetic use.[9][11][17][19] It is designed as a chemically stabilized depigmenting compound that does not release hydroquinone, aiming to inhibit melanin production with improved safety and tolerability compared with traditional hydroquinone-based agents, including demonstrated chemical stability, non-genotoxicity, and non-irritancy in ocular and other safety evaluations.[9] The molecule is positioned for treatment of hyperpigmentation and related aesthetic skin conditions in topical formulations, with development focused on the cosmetic/dermatology market rather than systemic pharmaceutical indications.[9][11][15][17][19]
