TFX2 is a selective, ribosomally-synthesized, post-translationally modified peptide antibiotic. It is produced by the bacterium Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii T24 and is one of two geometric isomers of Trifolitoxin (TFX). TFX2 exhibits potent biological activity, specifically inhibiting the growth of α-proteobacteria, including plant symbiont Rhizobium spp., plant pathogen Agrobacterium spp., and animal pathogen Brucella abortus. Its activity is significantly higher than that of its isomer, TFX1, and relies on specific amino acid residues (arginine, glutamine, glycine, and cysteine) and extensive post-translational modifications of its precursor peptide.
