TG-MVACEF is a preclinical-stage, Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA)-based prophylactic vaccine candidate developed by Transgene. It is designed to protect against Orthopoxvirus infections, specifically Mpox (monkeypox) and smallpox. The vaccine utilizes a highly attenuated, non-replicating MVA viral vector derived from a virus originally developed for smallpox vaccination. The 'CEF' suffix indicates that TG-MVACEF is manufactured using traditional chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) production methods, distinguishing it from its sister candidate TG-MVACL, which is produced on an avian suspension cell line. Preclinical studies in mice and non-human primates have demonstrated that TG-MVACEF induces a rapid and robust antiviral immune response and provides protective efficacy against Monkeypox virus (MPXV) exposure.
