Overview

TG-MVACL is a preclinical-stage, highly attenuated, non-replicating Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA)-based prophylactic vaccine candidate developed by Transgene. It is designed to induce a rapid and robust antiviral immune response against Orthopoxvirus-related diseases, specifically mpox (monkeypox) and smallpox. Unlike its sister candidate TG-MVACEF, which is produced on chicken embryo fibroblasts, TG-MVACL is manufactured using avian suspension cell lines, enabling rapid, scalable, and industrially transposable production. Preclinical studies in mice and non-human primates have demonstrated that TG-MVACL provides robust protection, immunogenicity, and safety comparable to approved reference MVA vaccines, making it the preferred candidate for further clinical development in humans.
