Overview

THAP2 FS peptide vaccine is a research-stage peptide-based cancer vaccine antigen derived from a frameshift (FS) RNA encoded by the THAP2 gene. Identified in both human and mouse tumors, this antigen was investigated as part of a preclinical effort at the Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, to develop a universal prophylactic cancer vaccine. In the BALB-NeuT transgenic mouse mammary tumor model, the THAP2 FS peptide demonstrated an ability to delay tumor progression when administered individually. However, it was found to elicit a low humoral immune response and appeared to suppress the immune response to other frameshift antigens (such as SMC1A FS, SLAIN2 FS, and RBM14 FS) when combined in a multi-antigen pool. Due to this dominant or suppressive effect on antigen presentation, it was excluded from the final composite multi-antigen vaccine formulation.
