Thawed plasma is a blood product derived from fresh frozen plasma (FFP) or plasma frozen within 24 hours of collection (PF24) that has been thawed and stored at refrigerated temperatures. It contains all the coagulation factors present in FFP except for lower levels of Factor V and Factor VIII. Thawed plasma is used primarily for transfusion in patients with active bleeding or at risk of bleeding due to multiple coagulation factor deficiencies, especially when rapid availability is needed. It can be used interchangeably with FFP in most clinical scenarios involving massive transfusion protocols, emergent reversal of warfarin anticoagulation, and replacement therapy for multiple coagulation factor deficiencies. Thawed plasma is typically stored at 1–6°C for up to five days after thawing[5][6][8]. Its mechanism of action involves providing exogenous clotting factors to restore hemostasis.
