Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Perfect Probiotics is a multi-strain probiotic supplement primarily composed of *Lactobacillus acidophilus* and *Bifidobacterium lactis*. It is being investigated by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital as an adjunctive oral therapy for patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The treatment rationale is based on the potential modulation of the gut-retina axis; by altering the oral and intestinal microbiome, the supplement may influence systemic inflammatory pathways that contribute to the progression of choroidal neovascularization. In clinical pilot studies, it is administered orally in conjunction with standard-of-care intravitreal anti-VEGF injections to evaluate its impact on microbiome composition and clinical outcomes.
