Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TheraCour-HSV1 is a preclinical nanomedicine candidate being developed by NanoViricides for the treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) infections, specifically cold sores. Licensed from AllExcel and TheraCour Pharma, the drug utilizes the proprietary TheraCour polymeric micelle platform. These "nanoviricides" are engineered to mimic the receptors on a host cell's surface that the virus naturally targets. By acting as a decoy, the micelles bind to the virus particles (virions), effectively trapping and neutralizing them to prevent cellular entry and subsequent infection. This approach aims to provide a more effective alternative to traditional nucleoside analogues by directly targeting the extracellular virus particles.
