Therapeutic allogeneic lymphocytes are a form of adoptive cell therapy (ACT) where T lymphocytes from a donor are collected, expanded, and potentially engineered before being transferred to a recipient to eliminate pathogens and/or cancer cells. This therapy harnesses the graft-versus-leukemic or graft-versus-tumor effect, where donor lymphocytes recognize certain antigens on cancer cells and eliminate tumor cells. Unlike traditional hematopoietic cell transplantation, allogeneic cell therapy can function as 'universal effector cells' and potentially be used as an 'off-the-shelf' cellular therapy for cancer treatment.
