Overview

Therapeutic autologous dendritic cells (University of Nebraska) is an investigational cellular immunotherapy developed for the neoadjuvant treatment of stage II and III breast cancer. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells (DCs) and injecting them directly into the primary breast tumor or a palpable axillary node. As professional antigen-presenting cells, these DCs are intended to capture tumor-associated antigens in situ and present them to T cells, thereby stimulating a systemic anti-tumor immune response. In clinical trials conducted by the University of Nebraska, this cell therapy has been evaluated in combination with standard neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimens, such as paclitaxel, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide, to enhance the immunogenicity of the tumor microenvironment before surgical resection.
