Overview

Therapeutic autologous lymphocytes, specifically ex-vivo expanded autologous T cells, is an adoptive cell therapy developed and investigated by the University of Maryland, Baltimore. This treatment involves the collection of a patient's own T cells, which are then expanded in a laboratory setting to increase their quantity and potentially enhance their anti-tumor activity. In the clinical context of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), these cells are re-infused into the patient following high-dose chemotherapy and autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). The primary objective of this immunotherapy is to induce a "graft-versus-leukemia"-like effect using the patient's own immune cells to target and eliminate minimal residual disease, thereby reducing the risk of relapse after transplant.
