Overview

Therapeutic tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are an autologous cell therapy developed and studied by Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian for the treatment of metastatic cancers, including melanoma and renal cell carcinoma. The therapy involves isolating T cells that have naturally infiltrated a patient's tumor, expanding them to large numbers ex vivo, and re-infusing them into the patient. This approach leverages the natural ability of these T cells to recognize a broad spectrum of tumor-specific neoantigens via their endogenous T-cell receptors. In the Hoag clinical program, TIL therapy was evaluated in a Phase II setting in combination with aldesleukin (interleukin-2) and recombinant interferon alfa to support the expansion and anti-tumor activity of the infused lymphocytes.
