Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TheraTears Liquid Gel (also marketed as TheraTears Liquid Gel Nighttime Dry Eye Therapy) is an over-the-counter, preservative-free, hypotonic, electrolyte-balanced lubricant eye gel. It contains 1% sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) as its active ingredient, which is a viscous polymer that acts as an ocular lubricant and demulcent to protect and soothe the ocular surface. Formulated to mimic the natural composition of healthy tears, it contains five vital electrolytes (OxyLytes) to correct the salt imbalance associated with dry eye symptoms. It is indicated for the temporary relief of dry eye symptoms, including burning, irritation, and discomfort. In clinical research, such as studies led by Ms. Kuan-Li Lily Ho, it has been evaluated in adult orthokeratology lens wearers to assess its effects on anterior eye health, comfort, refraction, and visual acuity.
