Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thermally sensitive liposomal doxorubicin (LTLD) is a specialized formulation of doxorubicin designed to release its active ingredient when exposed to temperatures above 39.5°C. This innovative drug delivery system combines the potent anticancer properties of doxorubicin with targeted release at tumor sites during thermal ablation procedures. The liposomal encapsulation helps protect normal tissues while the thermal sensitivity allows for precise drug release at the tumor site when combined with procedures like radiofrequency ablation (RFA). LTLD is engineered to address the limitations of conventional doxorubicin therapy, particularly its dose-limiting cardiotoxicity. The heat-sensitive liposomes rapidly release the drug when tissue temperatures exceed 39.5°C, corresponding to the thermal margin surrounding ablation zones where treatment failures most commonly occur.
