The thermosensitive nanogel embolic agent is an experimental injectable material developed by Yunnan Cancer Hospital for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) via transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). This agent exists as a low-viscosity liquid at room temperature, allowing for easy administration through a microcatheter into the tumor-feeding arteries. Upon reaching body temperature (37°C), the nanogel undergoes a rapid sol-gel phase transition, forming a stable solid embolic plug that physically occludes the vasculature, leading to tumor ischemia and necrosis. This in situ gelation provides superior peripheral vascular occlusion compared to traditional embolic agents like Lipiodol or microspheres. Additionally, the nanogel can be loaded with chemotherapeutic drugs, enabling localized, sustained drug release directly into the tumor environment while minimizing systemic toxicity.
