Overview

Thiazinamium is a first-generation phenothiazine derivative with antihistaminic and anticholinergic properties. It acts primarily as an H1-antihistamine, interfering with the action of histamine at the Histamine H1 receptor to reduce inflammatory responses such as those seen in allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and urticaria. Thiazinamium also exhibits anticholinergic effects due to its structural similarity to other phenothiazines. Its quaternary ammonium structure limits systemic absorption, making it suitable for topical use where systemic side effects are undesirable. The drug can stabilize mast cells and decrease pro-inflammatory cytokine expression by modulating intracellular signaling pathways[2][4][5][6].
