Overview

Thienylfentanyl is a synthetic opioid analgesic and an analog of fentanyl. It acts primarily as a potent agonist at the µ-opioid receptor, producing analgesic effects similar to fentanyl but with structural modifications involving a thiophene (thienyl) group. It was sold briefly on the black market in the 1980s before being controlled under drug analog laws. Like other fentanyl analogs, it carries risks of respiratory depression and overdose typical of potent opioids. Its mechanism involves binding to opioid receptors in the central nervous system to produce pain relief, sedation, euphoria, and respiratory depression. Thienylfentanyl is mainly known as an illicit substance rather than an approved pharmaceutical product[1][4][6].
