Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thybax R is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing thiocolchicoside and rabeprazole, marketed by the Indian pharmaceutical company Medicox Lifescience. Thiocolchicoside is a semi-synthetic derivative of colchicoside that serves as a muscle relaxant with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It acts as a competitive GABA-A receptor antagonist and a glycine receptor agonist, effectively reducing muscle spasticity of central origin. Rabeprazole is a substituted benzimidazole proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. This combination is typically indicated for the treatment of painful muscle spasms associated with degenerative vertebral disorders or musculoskeletal trauma, where rabeprazole is included to provide gastric mucosal protection and prevent potential gastrointestinal irritation often associated with the use of muscle relaxants or concomitant NSAID therapy.
