Overview

Thionicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide (thio-NAD or thionicotinamide-DPN) is a sulfur-containing analog of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). It is traditionally utilized as a biochemical reagent and redox indicator in enzymatic assays because its reduced form, thio-NADH, exhibits a distinct absorbance maximum at 398 nm, which is shifted from the 340 nm peak of NADH and possesses a higher molar extinction coefficient, allowing for more sensitive detection of dehydrogenase activity. Recent research has identified thionicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide as a potential molluscicide for controlling the invasive golden apple snail (*Pomacea canaliculata*). It functions by binding to the protein neural Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome isoform X1 (PcnWAS), which leads to a decrease in the gene expression of the target and significant physiological impairment, including reduced oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion in the organism.
