It is also known by the code name AL5917. This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as toluenes and features both sulfonamide and thiophene moieties[1][2]. Experimental data indicate that it acts as a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase 2 (CA II), with reported binding affinity in the sub-nanomolar range (Kd = 0.46 nM)[2]. There are no approved indications or clinical trials for this compound; it remains an experimental agent primarily studied for its biochemical properties as a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor[1][2].
