Thiosalicylic acid

Thiosalicylic acid is an organosulfur compound with carboxyl and sulfhydryl functional groups. It acts as a non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic, and is used (primarily as its sodium salt) to relieve symptoms of acute gout, painful musculoskeletal conditions, osteoarthritis, and rheumatic fever. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Thiosalicylic acid has also been used as a precursor in the synthesis of other compounds such as the vaccine preservative thiomersal and the dyestuff thioindigo. It is associated with risks such as contact dermatitis[1][3][4][5].
