Thiotriazoline is a synthetic small molecule drug with potent antioxidant, cardioprotective, and hepatoprotective properties. Originally developed in Ukraine, it is currently manufactured and supplied as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) by companies such as Biocause Heilen. Its mechanism of action is multi-faceted: it acts as a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibits lipid peroxidation, and stabilizes cell membranes. Metabolically, thiotriazoline promotes the activation of anaerobic glycolysis and helps maintain ATP reserves under ischemic conditions, thereby reducing tissue damage. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of coronary artery disease, including stable angina and myocardial infarction, as well as various liver pathologies such as hepatitis and cirrhosis, where it helps normalize bile synthesis and reduce fatty infiltration.
