Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Three-color paste (San-se-gao) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) topical preparation developed by Longhua Hospital, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a multi-herbal formulation typically containing *Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex* (Huang Bai), *Curcumae Longae Rhizoma* (Jiang Huang), and *Rheum palmatum* (Da Huang). The paste is primarily used in the field of orthopedics to treat inflammatory conditions such as knee synovitis, joint swelling, and soft tissue injuries. Its therapeutic mechanism is based on TCM principles of clearing heat, detoxifying, promoting blood circulation, and resolving blood stasis to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. In clinical settings, it is frequently applied in conjunction with warming acupuncture to improve joint function and reduce synovial effusion.
