Overview

Thriphal gugul decoction is a traditional Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation used primarily for the treatment of uterine fibroids (leiomyomas). It is a liquid preparation (decoction) composed of multiple botanical ingredients, including Triphala (a combination of three fruits: *Phyllanthus emblica*, *Terminalia bellirica*, and *Terminalia chebula*) and Guggulu (*Commiphora wightii* resin). The drug was evaluated in a 12-week randomized, single-blind clinical trial (2018–2020) conducted by the Institute of Indigenous Medicine at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. In this study, it was administered orally at a dose of 30 ml twice daily. As a classical Ayurvedic compound, its therapeutic effect is attributed to the synergistic action of its various phytochemical constituents rather than a single isolated active ingredient or specific molecular target.
