Overview

Thrombin + collagen is a combination topical hemostatic agent used to control bleeding during surgical procedures when conventional methods (such as ligature or cautery) are ineffective or impractical. Thrombin, a serine protease, accelerates the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, promoting rapid clot formation. Collagen acts as a scaffold for platelet aggregation and supports mechanical tamponade at the bleeding site. The combination provides both physiologic (via thrombin-mediated coagulation) and mechanical (via collagen matrix) hemostasis. This product is typically used in general and plastic surgery settings for adjunctive control of oozing, pooling, or flowing bleeding[3][4][7].
