Overview

CollaSeal (also known as the T-CD patch) is a sponge-like, collagen-based hemostatic wound dressing that incorporates thrombin and L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA/levodopa). Developed and manufactured by Dalim Tissen, it is used clinically to prevent postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) and postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) in patients undergoing pancreatic resection. The thrombin component acts as a serine protease to catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin, promoting rapid blood coagulation. The L-DOPA component provides unique adhesive properties, inspired by mussel proteins, which facilitate the patch's secure attachment to wet tissue surfaces at the surgical site. The collagen matrix serves as a structural scaffold and further contributes to hemostasis by promoting platelet activation. The patch features a porous honeycomb structure designed to optimize the absorption of blood and surgical exudates.
