Overview

Thrombomodulin siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the thrombomodulin (TM) gene. Thrombomodulin is a cell surface glycoprotein typically found on endothelial cells, where it acts as a vascular protective molecule with anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, research has indicated that TM is upregulated in certain malignancies, such as bladder cancer, where it may promote tumor progression, proliferation, and invasion. By utilizing siRNA to knock down TM expression, researchers aim to inhibit these oncogenic processes. In preclinical models of bladder cancer, TM siRNA has demonstrated the ability to reduce cancer cell proliferation, migration, and colony formation, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic strategy for invasive urothelial carcinomas.
