Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thrombophob Ointment is a topical combination therapy containing heparin sodium (an anticoagulant) and benzyl nicotinate (a vasodilator). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis, superficial thrombosis, hematomas, bruises, contusions, sprains, tendovaginitis, frostbite, and varicose vein-related discomfort. Heparin sodium acts by binding to antithrombin III, which accelerates the inactivation of clotting factors such as thrombin and factor Xa, thereby preventing clot formation and promoting the resolution of existing superficial micro-clots. Benzyl nicotinate acts as a vasodilator by activating hydroxycarboxylic acid receptors (HCAR2 and HCAR3), which increases local blood flow and cutaneous absorption of heparin, enhancing its therapeutic efficacy and relieving localized pain and swelling. Originally developed by Nordmark, Thrombophob Ointment is marketed and manufactured by various regional partners, including Tunggal Idaman Abdi in Indonesia and Zydus Healthcare in India.
