Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thrombosomes are a first-in-class, lyophilized (freeze-dried) human platelet-derived product developed by Cellphire Therapeutics. They are designed to provide immediate hemostatic support in patients with severe bleeding or those at risk of bleeding due to thrombocytopenia or trauma. Unlike standard liquid-stored platelets, which have a shelf life of only 5–7 days and require strict temperature control, Thrombosomes can be stored at room temperature for years and reconstituted quickly with sterile water. Upon administration, they mimic the function of natural platelets by adhering to damaged vascular endothelium and facilitating the coagulation cascade to form stable clots. The product is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its safety and efficacy in treating bleeding associated with low platelet counts and in traumatic hemorrhage scenarios.
