Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Thrombostim** is a topical, dual-component, human blood-derived wound-healing product developed and manufactured by the South African National Blood Service. It contains lyophilized platelet-rich plasma and lyophilized human thrombin, which are reconstituted and combined at application to form a fibrin-rich coagulum. The thrombin component converts fibrinogen to fibrin and helps generate a local clot matrix, while platelet-rich plasma supplies platelet-derived growth factor and other platelet-associated mediators intended to support tissue repair. It has been evaluated in a Phase 3 study for recalcitrant venous stasis ulcers.
