Overview

Thuja occidentalis (also known as Thuya occidentalis) is a homeopathic remedy derived from the Northern White Cedar (Arborvitae) tree, native to eastern North America. In clinical research, it has been evaluated as part of a homeopathic combination product—alongside *Agraphis nutans*, *Kalium muriaticum*, and *Arsenicum iodatum*—as an adjuvant to standard aerosol therapy (ambroxol and budesonide) for children with otitis media with effusion (OME). The active ingredient is derived from the mother tincture of the plant, which contains essential oils (notably thujone), coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, and proanthocyanidines. As a homeopathic preparation (typically used at potencies such as 5CH), it does not have a defined single biological target in the conventional pharmacological sense; however, it is broadly associated with immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial properties in scientific literature.
