Overview

Thymalin is a peptide bioregulator developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It is a polypeptide complex originally isolated from calf thymus tissue, containing active short peptides such as L-Glu-L-Trp (EW), L-Lys-L-Glu (KE), and L-Glu-L-Asp-L-Pro (EDP). As an immunomodulator, Thymalin targets thymic function and T-cell activity to correct immune deficiencies and combat age-related immune decline (immunosenescence). Its mechanism of action involves normalizing the differentiation and proliferation of lymphoid cells, reducing apoptosis, and regulating gene expression related to immune system proteins and stem cell differentiation. Clinically used in Russia for decades, it has demonstrated geroprotective effects, reducing mortality and the incidence of age-related diseases, and has recently been applied in the treatment of severe COVID-19 in elderly patients.
