Overview

Thymic humoral factor gamma 2 is a synthetic or naturally derived octapeptide (sequence: Leu-Glu-Asp-Gly-Pro-Lys-Phe-Leu) essential for modulating immune responses[1]. It is purified from calf thymus extracts and demonstrates potent immunoregulatory effects, including enhancing lymphocyte (especially T cell) proliferation and cytokine production, particularly interleukin 2[1][2][3][4]. THF-gamma 2 has shown efficacy in restoring immunocompetence, such as T cell activity and cytokine production, in immunodeficient or aged animal models[2][6]. It also enhances immunotherapy efficacy in viral infections, such as cytomegalovirus[3][9], and demonstrates immunomodulatory potential in models of hepatic fibrosis and immune-mediated liver damage[8]. Investigational clinical uses have included management of immune deficiencies, viral infections (HIV, hepatitis B), and adjunct therapy in certain cancers[4][5][7]. THF-gamma 2 is considerably more potent than other thymic hormones like thymosin alpha 1 in augmenting immune function[2][6].
