Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Desiccated porcine thyroid extract (DTE) is a biological product derived from the dried thyroid glands of pigs (*Sus scrofa*). It is used as a hormone replacement therapy for patients with hypothyroidism. Unlike synthetic levothyroxine (T4), DTE contains a combination of both T4 and liothyronine (T3), typically in a ratio of approximately 4:1, along with other thyroid-related proteins and iodine. It acts by binding to thyroid hormone receptors in the nucleus of target cells, regulating gene expression and metabolic processes. Neuvosyn Laboratories is developing a specific formulation referred to as North Star for the treatment of primary hypothyroidism, which is currently in Phase 3 clinical evaluation.
