**Thyrotropin alfa** is a recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone used as an adjunct in the management of **well-differentiated thyroid cancer** after thyroidectomy. Developed by **Genzyme** and marketed as **Thyrogen**, it is a biologic recombinant glycoprotein that **agonizes the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor**, stimulating residual thyroid tissue or differentiated thyroid cancer cells to increase **thyroglobulin release** and **radioiodine uptake**. Clinically, it is used to facilitate serum thyroglobulin testing with or without radioiodine imaging during follow-up, and to prepare appropriate patients for radioiodine remnant ablation while allowing them to remain on thyroid hormone replacement, thereby avoiding hypothyroid withdrawal.
