**TIAB** is a proprietary inorganic antimicrobial complex comprising microcrystalline titanium dioxide with covalently linked monovalent silver ions. It has no assigned INN. In vaginal medical-device formulations, including products such as Tiagin and other TIAB-containing soft-gel capsules, gels, foams, and wipes, it is intended to create a local protective antimicrobial barrier and support tissue healing. Its proposed activity derives principally from stabilized silver ions, which can disrupt microbial cell-envelope functions and interact with intracellular microbial components, while titanium dioxide serves as the stabilizing microcrystalline matrix. TIAB has been studied in randomized Phase 3 trials sponsored by Università degli Studi dell'Insubria for prevention of infectious and hemorrhagic complications after total hysterectomy. TIAB itself is distinct from Tiagin, which is a formulated product that additionally contains sodium hyaluronate and Aloe barbadensis extract.
