Overview
TiaGard is a veterinary antibiotic liquid concentrate containing 12.5% tiamulin hydrogen fumarate, developed and manufactured by Aurora Pharmaceutical. It is a semi-synthetic diterpene antibiotic belonging to the pleuromutilin class. Tiamulin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the peptidyl transferase center of the 50S ribosomal subunit. While its primary FDA-approved indications are for the treatment of swine dysentery (caused by *Brachyspira hyodysenteriae*) and swine pneumonia (caused by *Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae*), it is also utilized in poultry for the treatment of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) associated with *Mycoplasma gallisepticum*, infections caused by *Mycoplasma synoviae*, and intestinal spirochaetosis. TiaGard is marketed as a generic equivalent to Denagard and is administered via drinking water.
