Tian Jiu

Tian Jiu (TJ) therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) intervention, specifically a form of herbal moxibustion or acupoint herbal patching, developed and studied by the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The therapy involves the topical application of herbal patches—composed of a mixture of Sinapis Semen (BaiJieZi), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yan Hu Suo), Kansui Radix (Zhi Gan Sui), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xi Xin), and artificial Moschus (Rengong She Xiang) processed with fresh ginger juice—to specific acupoints such as Dazhui (GV 14) and Feishu. This external treatment is designed to stimulate the meridian and collateral systems, thereby regulating immune function and alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including nasal itching and congestion. Clinical research, including a randomized controlled trial (NCT02470845), has indicated that the therapy can improve patients' quality of life and reduce nasal symptoms.
