Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Tianaa Red** is an orally administered, multi-ingredient product sold in the United States as a dietary supplement but identified by the FDA as an unapproved new drug. It contains the synthetic atypical tricyclic antidepressant **tianeptine** and kava leaf extract; analytical testing found variable tianeptine content and identified kava-derived kavapyrones. Tianeptine is a small-molecule mu-type opioid receptor agonist associated with opioid-like intoxication, dependence, withdrawal, overdose, and death at high or repeated exposures. Tianaa Red has been promoted for relaxation, stress relief, and related effects, but it is not FDA-approved for any medical use and FDA considers tianeptine an unsafe food additive.
