Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tianchan Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily utilized in China for the management of moderate to severe cancer-related pain. Developed and studied by the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, it is frequently evaluated as an adjuvant therapy to be administered alongside potent opioids such as oxycodone (OxyContin). The formulation is derived from traditional components, notably including extracts from *Bufo gargarizans* (toad venom) and *Arisaema* species, which are believed to exert analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. In clinical settings, it aims to enhance the efficacy of standard pain management protocols while potentially mitigating the dosage requirements and side effects of opioid analgesics. It is currently under investigation in a Phase 4 trial for patients with advanced colorectal cancer pain, aiming to support a new indication for the product.
