Overview
Tianeptine hemioxalate is a novel salt form of the atypical tricyclic antidepressant tianeptine. It is being developed as an extended-release oral tablet for once-daily dosing in the treatment of major depressive disorder. The drug acts primarily by modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission and restoring neuroplasticity in stress-atrophied neurons, rather than through direct effects on monoaminergic neurotransmitter systems. Tianeptine also exhibits weak agonist activity at the μ-opioid receptor, which may contribute to its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects but also carries potential for abuse at high doses. The proprietary formulation aims to improve stability and manufacturability compared to previous salt forms[3][5][6].
