Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tianma Capsules (Tianma Jiaonang) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pharmaceutical product developed and manufactured by Shaanxi Tianyang Pharmaceutical. The formulation is primarily derived from the rhizome of *Gastrodia elata* Blume (Tianma). It is indicated for the treatment of dizziness, headaches, and numbness of the limbs, which are often associated with internal wind and liver-yang hyperactivity in TCM theory. The primary bioactive constituent, gastrodin, is known to exert sedative, anticonvulsant, and neuroprotective effects. Pharmacologically, it is believed to modulate the GABAergic system, specifically acting as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA receptors, thereby reducing neuronal excitability. The drug is approved in China and is used to manage symptoms related to hypertension and various forms of vertigo.
