Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tian-qi Jiang-tang Capsule (also known as Tianqi Capsule) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation used for the treatment and prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). It is a multi-herb botanical drug containing ten ingredients: Astragalus Membranaceus (Huangqi), Trichosanthes Root (Tianhuafen), Ligustrum Lucidum (Nvzhenzi), Dendrobium (Shihu), Ginseng (Renshen), Wolfberry Bark (Digupi), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), Cornus Officinalis (Shanzhuyu), Eclipta (Mohanlian), and Chinese Gall (Wubeizi). The formulation is designed to tonify qi and yin, clear heat, and promote salivation. Pharmacologically, it works by regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity, alleviating inflammatory injury, and modulating oxidative stress. It has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trials in China, most notably the REDUCES study, which demonstrated that 12 months of treatment significantly decreased the incidence of T2DM in patients with IGT and increased regression to normoglycemia.
