Tianshu

Tianshu is a traditional Chinese patent medicine primarily formulated as capsules or tablets. It is composed of two main herbal ingredients: Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort) and Tianma (Gastrodia elata Blume). The drug is widely used in China for the treatment of vascular headaches, especially migraines associated with blood stasis type and syndrome of ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang. Clinical studies have shown that it has significant efficacy in reducing headache symptoms and improving quality of life for migraine patients[1][3]. Pharmacological research indicates that its mechanism involves antioxidative effects—decreasing oxidative stress markers such as malondialdehyde (MDA), enhancing antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), modulating amino acid metabolism, energy metabolism disturbances, and downregulating glycolysis-related enzymes including LDHA, PKM2, and HK2[2]. The main metabolic pathways after administration are hydroxylation and glucuronidation[5].
