Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tiaochang Xiaoyan + Shenling Baizhu is a combination of two traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulas used primarily for gastrointestinal disorders, especially chronic colitis and diarrhea. - **Tiaochang Xiaoyan tablet (TCXYT)** is derived from the Xianglian pill and contains Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, Radix Linderae, Rhizoma Coptidis, Herba Hedyotis, and Semen Coicis. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in preclinical models of ulcerative colitis by promoting mucosal repair, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and TNF-α), increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10), enhancing lysosomal activity in macrophages, and inhibiting the TLR9/MyD88/IRAK signaling pathway[1][2]. - **Shenling Baizhu San (SLBZS)** is a classical formula composed of 10 herbs including Panax ginseng (Ren Shen), Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), Poria cocos (Fu Ling), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gan Cao), Dolichos lablab (Bai Bian Dou), Dioscorea opposita (Shan Yao), Nelumbo nucifera seed (Lian Zi), Platycodon grandiflorus root (Jie Geng), Amomum villosum fruit (Sha Ren) and Coix lacryma-jobi seed (Yi Yi Ren). It is traditionally used to strengthen spleen function, resolve dampness, stop diarrhea, improve digestion/absorption, boost energy levels (“qi”), and support recovery from chronic digestive issues such as chronic diarrhea or ulcerative colitis[4][5][6][7]. The combination aims to synergistically address both inflammation/injury repair in the colon as well as underlying “spleen deficiency” with dampness according to TCM theory. This dual approach targets both acute symptoms of inflammation/ulceration as well as chronic functional weakness contributing to recurrent disease.
