tiapride

Tiapride is a selective dopamine D2 and D3 receptor antagonist classified as an atypical neuroleptic agent. It displays high regional selectivity for limbic areas of the brain, with moderate affinity for its target receptors. Unlike other neuroleptics such as haloperidol and risperidone, which affect multiple dopamine receptor subtypes and other neurotransmitter systems, tiapride is more selective in its action. It is primarily used to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders including dyskinesia, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, negative symptoms of psychosis, agitation, aggression in the elderly, anxiety disorders (especially in geriatric patients), and sleep disturbances. Its antidyskinetic effects are attributed to its antidopaminergic activity; it also has anxiolytic properties through mechanisms that are not fully understood[1][2][5][6].
