Overview
Tibetree Pain-Relieving Plaster (PRP) is a topical herbal analgesic patch derived from traditional Tibetan medicine. It is being investigated by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an adjunct therapy for managing localized cancer-related pain and chronic musculoskeletal pain in cancer survivors. The formulation contains 1% camphor along with six other herbal ingredients, including *Zanthoxylum bungeanum*, *Lamiophlomis rotata*, *Curcuma longa*, *Myricaria germanica*, and *Carthamus tinctorius*. Preclinical studies suggest the plaster exerts its effects through antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, specifically by inhibiting the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) pathways. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials (e.g., the EASE study) to determine its efficacy in reducing opioid requirements and improving pain management in oncology patients.
