Overview

Ticagrelor (Brilinta) is a direct-acting, reversible P2Y12 receptor antagonist, while clopidogrel (Plavix) is a thienopyridine prodrug that irreversibly inhibits the same receptor. Both are oral antiplatelet agents indicated for the reduction of thrombotic cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The EndoTic trial specifically evaluates the pleiotropic effects of these treatments on the vascular endothelium, measuring changes in circulating endothelial cells (CECs) and endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) over a one-month period.
