TICE-strain BCG is an attenuated, live culture preparation of the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) strain of Mycobacterium bovis, developed at the University of Illinois from a Pasteur Institute-originated strain. It is used both as an intravesical immunotherapy for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and as a vaccine for tuberculosis prevention. For bladder cancer, it is administered directly into the bladder to induce a local immune response that targets tumor cells; its precise mechanism involves stimulating granulomatous inflammation and activating cellular immunity within the bladder wall. As a tuberculosis vaccine, it induces protective immunity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection[1][4][5][8]. The product contains live bacteria and must be handled with care in immunocompromised patients.
