The tick-borne encephalitis vaccine (IBSS Biomed) is an inactivated viral vaccine developed for the active immunization of individuals against the tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV). TBEV is a flavivirus transmitted primarily by *Ixodes* ticks and can cause severe neurological disease, including meningitis and encephalitis. The vaccine is produced by inactivating the virus, typically using formaldehyde, while preserving the structural integrity of the viral envelope (E) protein, which serves as the primary antigen. Upon administration, the vaccine stimulates the production of neutralizing antibodies that provide protection against subsequent infection. This vaccine is manufactured by the Polish company IBSS Biomed and is approved for use, although it is primarily distributed within specific regional markets. It is typically administered via intramuscular injection in a multi-dose primary series followed by periodic booster doses to maintain immunity.
